15 October 2024 Call for Decade Action No.8 is open!

Rooted in the outcomes of the Ocean Decade Vision 2030 process, the Call for Decade Actions No.8 aims to bridge science and knowledge gaps in coastal resilience, society's relationship with the ocean, and the ocean-human health nexus.

This call consists of four different parts:

Part 1: Ocean Decade Programmes [Deadline: 31 January 2025]

The scope of the Call covers Programmes that contribute to the achievement of one or more of the following Ocean Decade Challenges:

• Challenge 6: Increase community resilience to ocean and coastal risks. The call has a focus on Programmes that develop 'people-centred' multi-hazard early warning systems and design adaptation planning strategies to enhance coastal resilience.
• Challenge 10: Restore society's relationship with the ocean. The Call is seeking Programmes on transdisciplinary social science research related to society-ocean connections, behavioural and policy change, and ocean literacy.
• The Ocean-Human Health Nexus. Programmes that engage the health sector and enhance our understanding of the intricate connections between ocean health and human health are encouraged to apply.

Part 2: Expressions of Interest for Decade Programmes [Deadline: 10 November 2025]

Additionally, the Ocean Decade is soliciting Expressions of Interest for Decade Programme proposals that address any Decade Challenges which are not covered in Part 1, in line with priorities outlined in the Barcelona Statement and the Ambition, Action, Impact: The Ocean Decade Pathway to 2030 report.

Part 3: Ocean Decade Projects [Deadline: 31 January 2025]

At the Project level, 29 endorsed Decade Programmes - over two-thirds of all existing endorsed Programmes - are inviting Decade Project submissions. For the full list of Programmes seeking Projects, view the Guidance Note for Applicants.

Part 4: Ocean Decade Contributions [Deadline: 31 January 2025]

Decade Contributions of in-kind or financial resources are encouraged, to support:

• Priority needs of the endorsed Decade Programmes participating in Part 1;
• Priority needs of Decade Implementing Partners to support a Community of Practice for Challenge 3: Sustainably nourish the global population;
• Capacity development initiatives to contribute to specific needs of the Ocean Decade Capacity Development Facility.
