10 April 2024 UN Ocean Decade Conference 2024
Four years into the Ocean Decade, this international conference brought together the global Ocean Decade community and partners to celebrate and take stock of progress and set joint priorities for the future of the Decade. It was hosted by Spain and co-organised with UNESCO's International Oceanographic Commission (IOC-UNESCO).
The Conference was run across three days, structured into four thematic sessions based around groupings of the Ocean Decade Challenges:
Session 1 - Science and Solutions for a Clean, Healthy and Resilient Ocean:
focusing on Challenges 1, 2 and 5 - Marine Pollution, Ecosystems and Ocean-Climate Nexus
Session 2 - Science and Solutions for a Sustainable and Resilient Ocean Economy:
focusing on Challenges 3 and 4 – Sustainable Ocean Economy and Sustainable Blue Food
Session 3 - Science and Solutions for a Safe and Predicted Ocean:
focusing on Challenges 6, 7 and 8 – Coastal Resilience, Observations, Data and Predictions
Session 4 - An Inspiring and Engaging Ocean for All:
focusing on Challenges 9 and 10 – Capacity Development, Ocean Literacy, Indigenous and Local Knowledge and Cultural Heritage
